Dynamic compensation of reactive power in Various Faults in Power System

چکیده
The STATCOM (Synchronous Static Compensator) based on voltage source converter (VSC) is used for voltage regulation in transmission and distribution system. The STATCOM can rapidly supply dynamic VARs required during system faults for voltage support. Strict requirements of STATCOM losses and total system loss penalty preclude the use of PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) for VSC based STATCOM applications. This constraint of implementing VSC without PWM functionality, results in over-currents and trips of the STATCOM during and after system faults, when its VAR support functionality is most required. In this paper, we propose and develop an “emergency PWM” strategy to prevent over-currents (and trips) in the VSC during and after single line to ground system faults, LLLG faults and to ensure that the STATCOM supplies required reactive power. The Simulation results are shown for a 48-pulse VSC based ± 100 MVAR STATCOM connected to a 2bus power strategy to prevent VSC over-currents and to supply required reactive power under line to ground system faults.

This paper discusses the Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) operation and control for Voltage sags compensation. DVR is a series connected power electronic based device that can quickly mitigate the voltage sags in the system and restore the load voltage to the pre-fault value. Voltage sag associated with faults in transmission and distribution systems, energizing of transformers, and starting of l...

The LVRT (Low Voltage Ride Through) is the main characteristic of every power system in faulty conditions. When fault occurs, it is essential for power system such as microgrid to control the voltage and frequency normally. Naturally in fault status, the unbalanced voltage and current are inevitable, but with the aid of LVRT technique, microgrid can keep stability in main system parameters such...
متن کاملLoss of Excitation Detection in Doubly Fed Induction Generator by Voltage and Reactive Power Rate
The doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is one of the most popular technologies used in wind power systems. With the growing use of DFIGs and increasing power system dependence on them in recent years, protecting of these generators against internal faults is more considered. Loss of excitation (LOE) event is among the most frequent failures in electric generators. However, LOE detection stud...

This paper presents a new control method for simultaneous compensation of instantaneous reactive power and current harmonics by parallel active filters (PAFs). Reference compensating currents of PAF are calculated using the subtraction of instantaneous power from its average value. In this way, it is possible omitting high/low pass filter(s) from the control circuit of PAF, which usually result...
